Irrigation Tech Assistant

Position Overview:

The Irrigation Tech Assistant assists in the construction and maintenance of automatic irrigation systems, garden ponds, low-voltage lighting, and installation of pumps for waterfalls. He or she would report to a team leader and perform duties as assigned by the team leader. He or she is also responsible for a variety of job tasks in the completion of landscape projects, including, but not limited to paved areas, driveways, retaining walls, or any other landscapes composed of hard wearing materials, such as stone or concrete. The position is a seasonal, full-time position (April – November), with the possibility of snow plowing, landscaping, equipment maintenance or lay off during the winter months.

Work Conditions:

  • Ability to work with hand tools, small engine equipment, and materials
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. repeatedly through an entire work shift

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Preferred experience and/or knowledge in horticulture/landscaping and plant care
  • Competent in the use of power tools (chainsaws, pruners, sod cutters, sprayers, rototillers, lawn mowers, line trimmers, etc.)
  • Capable of operating required equipment and tools in a safe and responsible manner
  • Effective communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license (and willingness to attain a chauffeurs license)
  • Knowledge of specific materials, methods, tools and equipment required to complete various softscape practices
  • Requires good manual dexterity
  • Requires excellent stamina
  • Work near heavy equipment and other vehicles on a regular basis
  • Physically fit with strong stamina
  • Ability to follow safe working procedures
  • Ability to work both independently with little supervision, and as part of a team
  • Carry and use a cell phone or data-enabled device for communication and reporting (calling and/or texting)

 

Wage Range:

Based on education and experience.
