Irrigation/Landscape Team Member

Esch Landscaping, LLC is a residential and commercial landscape design/build firm located near the beautiful shores of Lake Huron on Saginaw Bay.  Many of our clients have second homes along the coast of Lake Huron.

We primarily service the thumb area of Michigan.  We consist of 12 team members and have 20 team members in peak season.  We have been in business for twenty-one years and have established a reputation in our marketplace as the provider for high-end landscapes.

Position Overview

The Irrigation/Landscape Team Member assists in the construction and maintenance of automatic irrigation systems, garden pond, low-voltage lighting and installation of pumps for waterfalls and is also responsible for a variety of job tasks in the completion of landscape projects, including but not limited to paved areas, driveways, retaining walls, or any other landscaping made up of hard wearing materials such as stone, concrete etc.

Work Conditions

  • Job requires ability to work with hand tools, small engine equipment, and materials
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. repeatedly through an entire work shift
  • Requires good manual dexterity
  • Excellent stamina is required
  • Work near heavy equipment and other vehicles on a regular basis

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in the Installation of automatic irrigation systems
  • Assists in the Installation of garden ponds
  • Assists in the Installation of low-voltage landscape lighting
  • Installs pumps and necessary plumbing for waterfalls
  • Operates, proficiently, a variety of mechanical equipment, including skid steers, back hoes, dingos, vibratory plows, plate compactors, drills, gas and electric chop saws and general hand tools
  • Operates automatic and sick shift vehicles, such as dump trucks and truck and trailer combinations.
  • Performs planting and related activities
  • Performs routine lawn maintenance including grass cutting, lawn edging, weed pulling, and other routine lawn-maintenance activities.  Uses lawn mower and related equipment
  • Provides seasonal lawn care, such as spring and fall leaf clean-up 
  • Moves materials and equipment and performs related duties to assist in landscaping and hardscaping
  • Digs holes and trenches and excavates for hardscaping features using picks and shovels or related equipment
  • Hauls or spreads topsoil, gravel, sand, mulch, or related materials using wheelbarrows and rakes
  • Hand-finishes grade and apply seed, straw, or sod
  • Performs routine construction tasks, such as building forms for concrete using hand tools
  • Maintains assigned equipment and notifies the team leader of needed repairs
  • Responds politely to client inquires and projects a professional image
  • Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the team leader
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment, including the work site and equipment by
  • Ensuring all equipment is tied down and secure, safety gear is worn, safety cones are placed out beside truck and trailer, all laws and regulations concerning the equipment are followed, stop equipment before adjusting, abide by all Michigan laws and Department of Transportation regulations while driving 
  • Ensure that all equipment and hand tools assigned are accounted for and taken care of
  • Ensure that all trash and debris is removed from the cab of assigned truck at the end of each work day
  • Maintains assigned equipment and notifies mechanic of needed repairs
  • Loads equipment and materials on and off trucks and trailers

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years experience in horticulture/landscaping
  • Plant knowledge and identification, and experience in plant care
  • Competent in the use of power tools (chainsaws, pruners, sod cutters, sprayers, rototillers, lawn mowers, line trimmers, etc.)
  • Capable of operating required equipment and tools in a safe and responsible manner
  • Effective communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Time management skills
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of specific materials, methods, tools and equipment required to complete various softscape practices
  • Physically fit with strong stamina
  • Ability to follow safe working procedures
  • Ability to work both independently with little supervision, and as part of a team
  • Carry and use a smart phone or data-enabled device for communication and reporting

Wage Range:  $12.00 - $16.00 per hour based on education and experience.
