Softscape Foreman

Currently, our team is seeking an experienced and qualified candidate for the position of Softscape Foreman.  

Position Overview

The Softscape Foreman is a seasonal (April - November) position.  This position is responsible for a variety of job tasks in the completion of landscape projects, including but not limited to plant installation, sodding, seeding, pruning, trimming, weeding and fertilizing. The softscape foreman will also be a team leader of crew members on projects.

Work Conditions

  • Job requires ability to work with hand tools, small engine equipment, and materials
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. repeatedly through an entire work shift
  • Requires good manual dexterity
  • Excellent stamina is required
  • Work near heavy equipment and other vehicles on a regular basis


  • Minimum of three years documented experience in a similar sales position is preferred
  • Proven record of success
  • Knowledgeable in landscapes, hardscapes, drainage, irrigation and lighting

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the execution of softscape projects, equipment requirements and timing to ensure completion of job(s) within project deadlines
  • Manage safety, quality and productivity of work at sites and/or shop/yard
  • Assist in the preparation of jobsites prior to the beginning of a project
  • Read and interpret, drawings, and specifications to delegate/complete work activities
  • Supervise the day to day work activities of a softscape crew of 1 to 4 employees
  • Delegate job tasks to appropriate crew members to assist in the completion of landscape projects
  • Conduct on-site orientations with new employees and employees in new positions, which cover all company health and safety policies, practices, and procedures
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, and other necessary equipment to complete job tasks
  • Plant trees, shrubs, flowers, and bulbs
  • Weed, prune, and trim trees and plants
  • Apply fertilizers, cut grass, and water lawns and gardens
  • Cart and spread topsoil and other required materials
  • Lay sod or seed; grading (soil); and tree staking
  • Perform lawn maintenance using lawn mowers, trimmers, aerators and power rakes
  • Move and transport materials using shovels, wheelbarrows, carts, dollies and manual lifting
  • Perform other manual duties to clean and maintain landscaped environments, shop and equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment by conducting inspections, lubricating, and cleaning on a daily basis
  • Supervise the work of crew members to ensure proper safety, quality, and productivity
  • Inspect all work for quality to eliminate the need for return visits and/or re-work due to quality or customer satisfaction issues
  • Train crew members on proper and safe job methods
  • Conduct daily inspections and maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment
  • Complete and submit all required paperwork on a daily basis
  • Complete electronic time sheets for all crew members
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times
  • Comply with all company policies and regulations
  • Maintain and enforce standards of cleanliness and organization in assigned trucks, trailers, equipment, jobsites, and shop/yard areas
  • Ensure that all work activities are carried out in a safe and efficient manner, and that all crew members are in compliance with government and company PPE standards
  • Enforce and work in accordance with all local health and safety laws and regulations at shop/yard and on jobsites

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in horticulture/landscaping
  • Plant knowledge and identification, and experience in plant care
  • Competent in the use of power tools (chainsaws, pruners, sod cutters, sprayers, rototillers, lawn mowers, line trimmers, etc.)
  • Capable of operating required equipment and tools in a safe and responsible manner
  • Effective communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Time management skills
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of specific materials, methods, tools and equipment required to complete various softscape practices
  • Physically fit with strong stamina
  • Ability to follow safe working procedures
  • Ability to work both independently with little supervision, and as part of a team
  • Carry and use a smart phone or data-enabled device for communication and reporting

Wage Range:  $12.00 - $18.00 per hour based on education and experience.
