Matt Esch, Owner and President
Matt is the founder and owner of Esch Landscaping, LLC. Matt began mowing lawns at the age of 13 under the business name “Matt’s Lawn Care”. After graduating from Laker High School in 1995, Matt attended Michigan State University to study landscape design. Matt continued his lawn care business while attending MSU. After completion of the two-year program, he was well on his way to having a successful landscape company.Matt is always looking for ways to grow the Company, and in 2008, he expanded the Company’s services to include asphalt installation services for both residential and commercial properties.
Matt is passionate about providing the best quality of work and customer service to his clients. In addition, he sees the importance of maintaining a happy and healthy work environment for his employees and strives to become an employer of choice in the area.
Matt is a Certified Green Industry Professional (CGIP). In 2018, Esch Landscaping, LLC was voted as “Best of the Best” for Snowplowing by the Huron Daily Tribune. His work was selected as a Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association 2016 Industry Award Winner in both Residential Landscape Design and Installation and Commercial Landscape Design and Installation. Esch Landscaping, LLC was also featured in the January 2015 issue of Lawn & Landscape Magazine. In 2013, his work earned Hardscape North America’s (HNA) Project Award winner and was voted the “Best of the Best” landscaper for 2013 by Huron County View Readers.
Matt enjoys spending time with his family, coaching his children’s ball teams and cheering on his Spartans.
Lisa Esch, Owner
Lisa and Matt were married in 2001. Lisa has 15 years of experience working in the administrative area of the business. She graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Music Education. Lisa taught at Laker Schools for 2 ½ years before deciding to help her husband, Matt, run the business and raise their two children. When she is not working, she enjoys time with their children, family and is active in their children’s sports.
Ashley Grapp, CPA, Accounting Manager
Ashley joined the Esch Team in December of 2017 as the Accounting Manager. Ashley graduated from Saginaw Valley State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Professional Accountancy and is a Certified Public Accountant. Ashley brings 7 years of experience in the Public Accounting arena, including internal control development and testing, and auditing. Ashley is passionate about doing work right the first time and if you stop into the office, you can usually find her working diligently on perfecting a procedure or overhauling some form of financial statement or process. She and her husband, Kaleb, recently moved back home to the Thumb. Ashley oversees the daily office operations, including the development and implantation of policies and procedures, human resources, payroll, IT, and accounting and financial reporting. In her spare time, she enjoys staying active and spending time with friends and family
Steve Kaufman, Operations Manager
Steve joined the Esch Team in April of 2008 as our irrigation specialist. His duties have continually increased due to his diverse skills and knowledge. Steve oversees the Landscape, Maintenance, and Snow divisions, in addition to managing our fleet and facility. He is a valuable support to the daily accomplishments of our team. A few of Steve’s passions include snowmobiling, hunting, golfing, bowling, and canoeing.
John Laeder, Asphalt Division Manager
John joined the Esch Team in April of 2018 as our Asphalt Division Manager. John has an Automotive Technology Certification from Delta College, and bring with him 2 years of small engine repair experience, as well as 8 years of dairy farm management. His prior involvement in management allows for him to successfully provide direction and training to the asphalt crew members on a daily basis. He continually oversees the daily scheduling of the team members, contractors, and suppliers. In his spare time, John enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 children. He also enjoys golfing, bowling, and playing softball.
Travis Youatt, Maintenance Division Manager and Project Coordinator
Travis joined the Esch Team in May of 2016. From a young age, he worked in the green industry and after college he found himself further drawn to the industry. He is a graduate from Saginaw Valley State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration. Travis believes that the most important aspect of his work is to translate his client’s ideas into a reality with a thoughtful design and plan, that compliments their outdoor living dream. He has a true passion for client involvement, understanding and satisfaction through the design and build process. In his spare time, Travis spends time with his wife, Teila, and son, Levi, his family and 2 Goldendoodle’s Zoey and Nala. He also loves spending time on Lake Huron in the summer months and coaching basketball in the winter months.
Kevin Ouvry, Project Coordinator
Kevin joined the Esch Team in November of 2018 as a Project Manager. Kevin has an Associate’s degree in Business Administration from Grand Rapids Community College and has been in the outdoor industry for 12 years, including Parks and Recreation and Golf Course Greens Keeper. Kevin is a natural leader and loves being a part of a team and getting involved in whatever way possible. Here at Esch Landscaping, Kevin oversees our commercial maintenance accounts and landscape projects from start to finish, including assisting in the sales process, ensuring customer satisfaction is met, and crews are operating effectively and efficiently. Not only is he passionate about the outdoors in general, but in his spare time you will find him deer hunting, spending time with his wife, Carrie, and German Shorthaired Pointer, Jax, or playing hockey. He also enjoys spending quality time with his family at their cottage.
Jesse Bair, Senior Crew Leader
Jesse joined the Esch Team in May of 2003. He is a talented and creative hardscape specialist who is certified by the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI). Jesse’s dedication to detail and a job done right have gotten his work featured in Total Landscape Care Magazine in October of 2011 as well as numerous state awards. He is an integral part of the landscape division due to his vast knowledge of construction and years of experience. In his spare time, Jesse spends time with his two daughters, Kaylen and Kinslee and enjoys fishing and boating.
